Evelyn Castro

Evelyn Castro is a Brazilian actress, comedian and singer born on January 17, 1981 in Rio de Janeiro. A graduate in advertising and propaganda who also works as a graphic designer, she came up through musical theater and Brazilian variety television before becoming one of the most visible Black women in Brazilian comedy of the late 2010s and 2020s. She is best known as part of the Porta dos Fundos sketch troupe since 2016, as Marraia in Rodrigo Sant'Anna's Multishow sitcom Tô de Graça and as Deusa in the Globo telenovela Quanto Mais Vida, Melhor!

Evelyn first reached a national audience in 2005, when she finished in second place on the TV Globo talent competition Fama. She built a parallel career in musical theater and acting in Rio while continuing to develop her comedic voice. In 2016, comedian Fábio Porchat saw her in the feature film Apaixonados and invited her to join the cast of Porta dos Fundos, the country's most influential digital comedy channel. From there she became a regular face of Brazilian humor, appearing in sketches on Porta dos Fundos and in Multishow sitcoms including Vai que Cola, Tô de Graça (as Marraia, a recurring member of Dona Graça's chaotic household) and Encantados. In 2021 she made her debut in a fixed telenovela role, playing Deusa in the Globo prime-time soap Quanto Mais Vida, Melhor!. She has also worked as a singer and musical-theater performer, and is consistently described in the Brazilian press as one of the pioneering Black female voices in mainstream Brazilian comedy, often using her humor to spark conversations about race, body and gender in a healthy way.

Evelyn Castro's main outlets are the Porta dos Fundos YouTube channel and its Comedy Central / Paramount+ partnerships, Multishow and Globoplay (Tô de Graça, Vai que Cola, Encantados) and Globo prime-time telenovelas. She also appears regularly in stand-up showcases, theatrical comedy nights and musical theater productions in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, and her Instagram @evelyncastro tracks current projects.
