About Yvon Deschamps

Yvon Deschamps (born July 31, 1935, in Montreal, Quebec) is a Quebecois author, actor, comedian, and producer best known for his monologues. His social-commentary-tinged humour propelled him to prominence in Quebec popular culture in the 1970s and 1980s. Born in Montreal's working-class Saint-Henri district, he found work at Radio-Canada in 1953, where he discovered the performing arts and later took up acting classes and theatre. In 1968 he made his first real monologue part of the revolutionary musical revue L'Osstidcho, performing Les unions, qu'ossa donne?, after which his career skyrocketed. Over the following years he presented numerous sold-out shows at venues such as the Place des Arts and the Patriote. He chose 1983 to bow out as a monologuist with his farewell show, Un voyage dans le temps, and later hosted the variety show Samedi de rire from 1985 to 1989.
