About Mike Ward
Mike Ward is a Quebec comedian who works in both French and English, and he has been recognised in both markets. Just for Laughs gave him its Victor for breakthrough of the year in 2002 and for number of the year in 2012. The Gémeaux honoured his comedy performance in 2006, and in 2016 he was named Comedic Artist of the Year at the Canadian Comedy Awards. At the Olivier awards he took Olivier de l'année in 2016 and again in 2019, when he also won show of the year and writer of the year.
Podcasting is a large part of his output. Mike Ward sous Ă©coute started in 2011 and brought him the Olivier for best podcast in 2017, 2018 and 2019, while in English he has hosted 2 Drink Minimum with the comedian Pantelis on Compound Media. His recordings run from Vulgaire in 2001 to Infamous in 2018.
His routines about the singer Jérémy Gabriel led to a human rights complaint, and in 2016 a tribunal ordered him to pay damages. Ward took the matter to the Supreme Court of Canada, which overturned that ruling in a split decision on 29 October 2021.
