About Frédéric Bouraly

Frederic Bouraly is a French actor, theatre performer and voice artist born on May 3, 1960 in Moulins, in the Allier department. He started his stage career at age 20 with a first role in Jean Genet's play 'Haute Surveillance', and trained in a classical theatre tradition that took him through productions of Moliere, Musset, Pinter and Shakespeare. He later worked with director Jean-Louis Martin-Barbaz in 'Les Deux Orphelines' (1981) and 'Les Femmes savantes' (1982). While he is widely recognized in France for his television comedy work, he comes from a theatre background rather than a stand-up one, and is best known to French audiences for his on-screen sitcom persona rather than for solo one-man-shows.

Since 2009, Frederic Bouraly has played Jose, one half of an iconic working-class couple, in M6's short-format daily sitcom 'Scenes de menages', alongside Valerie Karsenti as Liliane. The show is one of the longest-running and most-watched comedy programmes on French television, and Bouraly's portrayal of Jose - laid-back, allergic to housework, devoted to his sofa and to football - has turned the character into a pop-cultural reference for French couple comedy. In parallel, he sustains a busy theatre comedy career: from January 2023 he stars at the Theatre Rive Gauche in Paris in 'Ave Cesar', a French adaptation of the Canadian play 'Sexy Laundry' by Michele Riml, alongside Christelle Reboul and Eric Laugerias, in which a couple married for 25 years tries to rekindle their love life in a chic hotel. The play was broadcast live on Paris Premiere on June 1, 2024. He has also performed in the comedies 'Les Darons' and 'Deux mensonges et une verite'. As a voice actor he is the French dub voice of Mister Satan in the 'Dragon Ball Z' franchise, among other roles. His comedy is built around character work, couple dynamics, and theatre-grounded timing rather than personal stand-up.

Frederic Bouraly continues to star at the Theatre Rive Gauche in Paris and on tour in 'Ave Cesar' with Christelle Reboul and Eric Laugerias. New episodes of 'Scenes de menages' air daily on M6 and are available on the M6+ streaming platform; the show has aired thousands of episodes since 2009.
