Christian Schulte-Loh
The German Comedian
About Christian Schulte-Loh
Christian Schulte-Loh is a German stand-up comedian, presenter and author born on 6 March 1979 in Haltern am See, North Rhine-Westphalia. He had his first English-language stand-up appearance during a 2002 semester abroad in Belgium and has since performed in over thirty countries, branding himself internationally as 'The German Comedian'. He is one of the few Germans to have built an English-speaking comedy career in the UK, where Der Spiegel described him as 'German but funny' and The Spectator called him 'one of the most subversive acts ever'.
Schulte-Loh moved to London in 2009 to pursue stand-up full time, quickly establishing himself in the British circuit as a German specialist with cross-cultural material. He first appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009 and returned regularly with solo hours including 'Attack of the 50 Foot German Comedian' (2013), 'Rise of the 50 Foot German Comedian' (2017) and 'Comeback of the 50-Foot German Comedian' (2022, revived 2025). In 2015 he appeared on BBC Radio 4's 'Britain vs The World'. Since 2012 he has been visible in Germany at the Quatsch Comedy Club and on TV shows including 'Nuhr im Ersten', 'Markus Lanz' and 'NightWash', commuting between Britain and Germany. He has published two books: the non-fiction 'Zum Lachen auf die Insel: Als deutscher Komiker in England' (Piper Verlag, 2017) and his debut novel 'Es gibt einen Gott, und ihr ist langweilig' (Droemer Knaur, September 2023).
Christian Schulte-Loh tours the UK, Germany and the European comedy circuit, with current dates listed on his official site germancomedian.com. He performs regularly at the Quatsch Comedy Club in Berlin and Hamburg, on the NightWash live circuit and at major UK clubs, and returns each summer to the Edinburgh Fringe with his ongoing '50 Foot German Comedian' series. Stand-up clips from German TV recordings are available via the Quatsch Comedy Club YouTube channel and Sector3 agency listings.
