About Johannes Schröder (Komiker)
Herr Schröder is the stage name of a working teacher who turned the staffroom into an act. Johannes Schröder taught German and English at a grammar school in Offenburg and ran the school theatre group there, directing pupils in one production after another, before a sabbatical in Toronto in 2014 took him into comedy clubs and changed his plans.
Back in Germany he went through the contest circuit, winning newcomer competitions including the Quatsch Comedy Club talent search in 2016 and the NDR Comedy Contest a year later, and then took leave from teaching. His first solo programme, World of Lehrkraft, premiered in Cologne in 2017 and toured Germany, Austria and Switzerland; Instagrammatik followed in 2024. The material never leaves the school: marking, parents evenings, staff meetings and the language of educational bureaucracy, delivered by someone who had to survive all four.
