About Karl Dall

Karl Dall, born in Emden in 1941, first became known as one quarter of Insterburg & Co., the comedy group he founded in 1967 with Ingo Insterburg, Jürgen Barz and Peter Ehlebracht. Their musical nonsense reached a national audience through the Radio Bremen programme Musikladen, and the four stayed together until the late seventies. His own songs kept to that comedy schlager style, closer to speaking than to singing.

Television made him a solo star. He took comic roles in Verstehen Sie Spaß? on Das Erste from 1983 to 1990, and on RTL he hosted Dall-As from 1985 to 1991, a talk show in which needling the guests was the whole point. He carried the format on with Jux und Dallerei on Sat.1, appeared on 7 Tage, 7 Köpfe, and in 2016 presented the documentary series Old Guys on Tour on Tele 5.

His film credits run from Quartett im Bett in 1968 to Panische Zeiten in 1980. In 1999 he received the Deutscher Comedypreis for his life's work. He died in Hamburg in 2020.
