About Lars Reichow

Lars Reichow is a German Musikkabarettist, pianist, composer, singer, television moderator and entertainer born on June 12, 1964 in Mainz. Known by his stage nickname Der Klaviator, he has been performing on the cabaret stage since 1982, when he toured with Hanns Dieter Husch at the age of eighteen, and is one of the most recognizable Klavierkabarett voices in the German-speaking world. Reichow's blend of private, political and poetic storytelling, paired with virtuoso piano playing, has earned him the German Kleinkunstpreis and around ten major cabaret prizes.

Reichow studied music and German philology and received his musical training (guitar, piano, trombone) from his father, the jazz bandleader Bernd Reichow. He played at age sixteen in his father's Bernd Reichow Jazz Formation, then toured nationally from 1982. He taught at the Immanuel-Kant-Gymnasium in Russelsheim in the 1990s before launching his first solo program Ich bin auf jeden Fall da! in 1992 before 400 spectators. Subsequent programs include Allerhochste Tastenzeit (1995) and Der Klaviator (1997), followed by tours focused on themes such as Manner. He has hosted his own broadcast formats including Reichows Welt on SWR, Querkopf on HR1 and Lachen mit Lars on Hessisches Fernsehen, and from 2013 to 2023 he was a regular news moderator on the ARD carnival broadcast Mainz bleibt Mainz wie es singt und lacht. He moderates the Musikalische Monatsrevue on SWR2 every last Saturday of the month and has also presented the consumer comedy Ohne Garantie on ZDF and the SWR cultural show Kunscht.

Lars Reichow continues to tour Germany year-round with his current program described as Privat Politisch Poetisch, regularly performing at the Mainzer Unterhaus, the Nationaltheater Mannheim and theatres across Rheinland-Pfalz, Hessen and Baden-Wurttemberg. His broadcasts on SWR2, the ARD carnival programming and HR continue to reach a national audience.
