About Lutz van der Horst

Lutz van der Horst (born 20 August 1975 in Cologne) is a German television presenter and comedian. He is most known for being a political satire reporter on the late-night satirical television program heute-show. He studied English studies and German studies at the University of Cologne and initially worked as a speaker and author for radio, including on the "Burgerfunk" show on Radio Cologne, before doing an internship at the 1LIVE radio station.

From 2000 van der Horst worked in television as a gag writer for the Cologne-based production company Brainpool on shows such as Die Wochenshow, Rent a Pocher and TV total, and later as a freelance writer for Switch Reloaded, Sechserpack and Harald Schmidt. From December 2001 he began appearing in front of the camera, including on TV total in a pink rabbit costume. In 2008 he co-founded the office N2O Comedy with Manuel Butt and Thomas Rogel, and he has been a cast member of the heute-show since 2009, where he is nicknamed the "Political Terror".

On radio station 1LIVE and on stage, van der Horst performs a stand-up comedian persona named Jimmy Breuer, billed as Germany's worst comedian, who deliberately delivers punchlines at the wrong time; he toured 36 shows with this character in 2011. Since September 2016 he has played the prison supervisor Frosch in Johann Strauss's operetta Die Fledermaus at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden. He has won numerous awards as a member and writer of the heute-show, including the Adolf-Grimme-Preis (2010), multiple Deutscher Comedypreis and Deutscher Fernsehpreis awards, the Goldene Henne (2016) and the Goldene Kamera (2017). He lives in Ehrenfeld, Cologne.
