About Tan Çağlar

Tan Çağlar (born 12. Juli 1980 in Hildesheim) is a German-Turkish comedian, actor, presenter and model. Tan Çağlar's parents came to Germany in the 1970s as Gastarbeiter from Turkey. He was born with an open back (Spina bifida), but was initially not strongly affected by it. He worked as a commercial employee at an advertising agency. Already in his childhood Çağlar developed a passion for basketball. At 21 years old he played in the Oberliga at Eintracht Hildesheim, and at 25 years old came the transition into the wheelchair, after which he struggled with depression and withdrew into private life for two years.

In 2009 he found his way back to sport as a wheelchair basketball player, where he quickly rose to professional level: he fulfilled his first professional contract over six years at Hannover United, at times in the Bundesliga, and in 2014 transferred to the Baskets 96 Rahden. Since 2012 Çağlar was active as a coach in the area of inclusion and integration for companies, associations and schools, and also worked as a model, among other things appearing in 2016 as the first model in a wheelchair at the Berliner Fashion Week. In the course of his seminars and lectures he discovered his comedic talent, which eventually led him to stand-up comedy. In 2017 he started with his first comedy programme Rollt bei mir, and at the beginning of 2020 Geht nicht? Gibt's nicht followed.

On television he was a guest, among others, at the NDR Talkshow, at Markus Lanz (ZDF), at Spätschicht - Die Comedy Bühne (SWR) and at Nuhr im Ersten (ARD). He was a finalist at the Prix Pantheon in 2018 and was awarded the Publikumspreis of the Stuttgarter Besen in the same year. At the beginning of 2021 Çağlar began filming for the ARD series In aller Freundschaft, where he has since played a surgeon and acts as the first actor in a wheelchair as a doctor in a German series production. He has also appeared in several Tatort episodes as the Kriminalassistent Malik Aslan. In 2019 he published the autobiography Rollt bei mir!.
