Torsten Sträter

Torsten Straeter (born 4 September 1966 in Dortmund), spelled Torsten Sträter, is a German author, comedian and kabarettist. He was born in Dortmund in the district of Eving and the next day his family moved to Waltrop, with Sträter only returning to Dortmund when he was 16. There he completed his training as a men's tailor, did 15 months of basic military service in the Bundeswehr stationed in Neustadt am Rübenberge, and afterwards worked in mobile phone sales and for his mother and brother's shipping company.

Especially in the mid-1990s, Sträter suffered from a depressive illness, a subject he later dealt with in his cabaret. He stepped on stage for the first time in 2006 while he was still suffering from depression. He is a frequent guest on the satirical show Extra 3 and also appeared on the comedy competition LOL: Last One Laughing, which he won in 2021. For some time now his trademark has been a beanie.
