About Dombóvári István

Dombovari Istvan, widely known by his nickname Dombi, is a Hungarian stand-up comedian, author, broadcaster, and cultural director born on April 30, 1978, in Cegled, Hungary. He is one of the original pioneers of Hungarian stand-up comedy, having started his solo performances in 2005 on the advice of showbiz veteran Fabry Sandor. As an early member of Dumaszinhaz, he helped introduce and popularize the stand-up format across Hungary at a time when the genre was still finding its footing.

Dombovari Istvan began performing at the Godot Coffeehouse in Budapest in 2005 and became a permanent member of Dumaszinhaz, touring stand-up comedy to towns and cities throughout Hungary. He was a regular on Showder Klub on RTL for 16 years, from the show's debut in 2008 until his voluntary departure in March 2024, citing the natural expiry of his contract. He is also a regular voice on MR1 Kossuth Radio's 'Kabareklab' program. Beyond stand-up, he has co-hosted Hungary's Got Talent alongside Sebestyen Balazs and has published several books including 'Pisti vagyok ments ki innen' (2017), 'Felkoer' (2017), and 'Netperces novellek' (2019). He has also served as director of the Jaszkarajeno cultural center since 2020. His comedy focuses on the everyday joys and frustrations of ordinary Hungarian life, family, and self-deprecating personal stories.

Dombovari Istvan continues to perform live shows across Hungary through Dumaszinhaz and independently. His material is accessible on DumaTV, the Dumaszinhaz streaming platform, and clips appear on his YouTube channel. He is active on TikTok (@dombiofficial) and Instagram (@dombipisti) with a combined following of over 100,000. His personal website dombovariistvan.hu lists upcoming shows.
