Anudeep Katikala

Anudeep Katikala is a Hyderabad-based Telugu stand-up comedian and IIT Bombay engineering graduate who worked at software and e-learning firms before moving into stand-up comedy full time in 2023. He co-founded Silly South Comedy, described in press coverage as India's first dedicated Telugu stand-up comedy collective, and also started and hosted a recurring Telugu-language open mic, the Telugu Stand Up Comedy Show, giving a platform to aspiring Telugu comics performing around Hyderabad and Bengaluru. His material frequently satirises Tollywood film stars and their public personas, including jokes about actors such as Pawan Kalyan and Ram Charan, as well as the behaviour of their fandoms. In April 2026, after a Jana Sena Party member filed an FIR over one of his YouTube sets, Andhra Pradesh police detained him in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, where he was visiting his parents, and formally arrested him two days later; a magistrate granted him bail without judicial remand, and his lawyers argued the arrest procedure was unlawful since no notice had been served beforehand. Katikala apologised publicly, saying his intent was to question toxic fan culture rather than target individuals, and the case drew wide national media coverage of his comedy and its political fallout.
