About Kunal Kamra

Kunal Kamra (born 3 October 1988) is an Indian stand-up comedian and political satirist known for his observational comedy about the absurdities of life. His performances include jokes about politics, cabbies, bachelor life and TV advertisements. He was born and brought up in Mumbai and attended Jai Hind College for a degree in Commerce, dropping out in his second year to work as a production assistant at Prasoon Pandey's ad film production house Corcoise Films, where he worked for eleven years.

Kamra started performing as a stand-up comedian in 2013 with a show at the Canvas Laugh Club in Mumbai. On 1 March 2017, he released a comedy video titled "Patriotism and the Government" on YouTube mocking the Indian banknote demonetization, and received several death threats for it. In July 2017, he launched a YouTube podcast titled Shut Up Ya Kunal along with his friend Ramit Verma, featuring informal discussions with politicians and activists interspersed with news clips of guests contradicting their own statements for comic effect.

Kamra has been at the centre of several controversies. On 28 January 2020, he confronted news presenter Arnab Goswami on an IndiGo flight, after which several airlines banned him; he issued a legal notice to IndiGo demanding compensation. After Goswami was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court in November 2020, Kamra made critical tweets that led to contempt of court accusations, which he refused to retract or apologise for. In a show made available on YouTube in March 2025, his remarks about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde triggered a controversy in which workers vandalized the Habitat comedy club where the show was filmed.
