About Daniele Luttazzi

Daniele Luttazzi (born Daniele Fabbri on 26 January 1961) is an Italian theater actor, writer, satirist, illustrator and singer. His stage name is an homage to musician and actor Lelio Luttazzi. Born in Santarcangelo di Romagna, in the province of Rimini, he began his comic career performing satirical monologues in theatre shows and writing comedy books. In 1988, one of his monologues won an award in a comedy contest held at Rome's Teatro Sistina.

From 1989, Luttazzi began working in television variety shows including Fate il vostro gioco, Banane, Magazine 3, and Mai Dire Gol. In 1998, he hosted his own late night show, Barracuda, on Italia 1. In 2001, his show Satyricon aired on Rai 2, where he interviewed journalist Marco Travaglio about a book on the origins of Silvio Berlusconi's wealth. The show was later cancelled by RAI's management, and Luttazzi has since been cited by the European press, including The Economist, Le Monde and El Pais, as an example of censorship of the opposition. He returned to television in 2007 with the satirical program Decameron on La7, which was suspended after a controversial joke about journalist Giuliano Ferrara.

Over the years Luttazzi faced repeated accusations of plagiarism, which he has characterized as references and parody he calls the "Lenny Bruce trick." In 1994, author Susanna Tamaro sued him over a parody, but he won the trial when it was ruled a parody rather than plagiarism. In 2012, he won a legal battle against La7, which was ordered to pay him 1,200,000 euros. In 2009, he opened a satire gym on his blog, where the authors of Lercio.it were trained.
