About Juan Carlos Escalante
Juan Carlos Escalante is a Mexican stand-up comedian, born and raised in Acapulco, who studied graphic communication design before becoming one of the pioneers of stand-up comedy in Mexico. More than ten years ago he moved to Mexico City, where he was among the first comedians to take the stage to tell stories from his own life in a comedic format. His style blends provocation with introspection, exploring both personal experience and social themes with a satirical edge, and he is nicknamed 'El Puto Genio' within the comedy community for his reputation and influence. He has appeared in Comedy Central Latin America productions, including the comedian duel special 'Culpo a los Poblanos de Todo,' and in 2014 appeared in an episode of 'Comedy Central Presenta' alongside comedian Coco Celis. He co-hosts the podcast 'El SĆŗper Show EstĆ” Genial' with fellow comedian Fran Hevia, discussing comedy and everyday life.
In August 2022, stand-up producer Melissa Yamel publicly accused Escalante of taking her to his home and making an unwanted sexual advance after she said she awoke there without her clothing, in the same public account in which she accused fellow comedian Mau Nieto of sexually assaulting her hours earlier that night; Escalante has not publicly responded to the allegation.
