About Diego Varea
Diego Varea is a Valencian musician, composer and stand-up comedian born in 1987. He first toured Spanish cities as part of the band Varea y la Banda before moving into comedy in 2011; the following year he won several national comedy awards, including the Premio Ópera, which pushed him to pursue comedy professionally. Varea's act fuses music and stand-up, mixing sung and rapped material with guitar and piano accompaniment; his stand-up show "Ácido" pairs comic songs and pure stand-up material with live instrumentation, and he wrote and directed the musical comedy show "Dando la Nota" with fellow comedian Álex Martínez. He is also the creator of the comedy character Msias, who plays on the collision between rap culture and Catholic doctrine in shows such as "Chungo, Grande y Fuerte" and "Aborta el Aborto." Varea has recorded several stand-up monologues for Comedy Central España, including bits that are purely spoken rather than musical, and maintains a personal YouTube channel featuring his comedy and music.
