J. J. Vaquero

J. J. Vaquero did not sign himself up for comedy. Friends entered him into a monologue contest in 2002, and on that circuit he met the comics who would shape his next years on stage: Nacho García, Quique Matilla, Luis Rodríguez and Álex Clavero. Much of his live work has been shared billing with them, in shows such as Monólogos y Locuras with García, Vaquero&Clavero with Clavero, and the group production Humor de Protección Oficial, which also brought in Fran el Chavo. With Iñaki Urrutia he toured En Bruto.

Television gave him two jobs at once. He did monologues on El Club de la Comedia for LaSexta and recorded specials for Comedy Central and Paramount Comedy, while behind the camera he wrote for El Hormiguero on Antena 3, the network where he later also worked on Me resbala and Improvisando. He appeared on Sopa de gansos on Cuatro, was part of the writing team for the 2017 Goya Awards gala hosted by Dani Rovira, and in 2025 fronted his own programme, La garita, on La 1. Radio has been a steady sideline, first on YU: No te pierdas nada with Dani Mateo and later with Ana Morgade on Europa FM, and on Melodía FM. In film he played Genaro in Ni de coña, directed by Fernando Ayllón.
