About Joan Capri
Joan Capri, born Joan Camprubรญ i Alemany, came into the world in Barcelona on 10 July 1917 and died there on 4 February 2000. He was a Catalan actor, humorist and monologuist, and the plays and monologues he performed made him a figurehead of Catalan humour in the twentieth century.
His irony was kindly but sharp, and the character he drew, a caricature of the ordinary city-dwelling Catalan, kept several generations laughing. Records of his monologues sold heavily in Catalonia, outselling the Beatles there in 1964.
