About Oye Sherman
Oye Sherman is the stage name of María Rovira i Lastra, a Catalan comedian and screenwriter born in Barcelona on 2 June 1990. She studied audiovisual communication with a focus on screenwriting at Pompeu Fabra University, including a period at Rome's Università degli Studi Roma Tre, and began writing from childhood. She co-founded El Soterrani with Josep Català and other comedians, one of the first regular spaces in Barcelona dedicated to stand-up comedy in Catalan. She has been a regular voice on Catalan radio, contributing to Estat de Gràcia on Catalunya Ràdio and the section Sherman & Co on iCat's L'irradiador, and appeared on TV3's La Nit dels Òscars. Alongside journalist Ana Polo she co-hosts the podcast Oye Polo, and the two wrote and presented the 16th Gaudí Awards gala. Her stand-up material, often centered on feminist themes and sharp observation of Catalan society, has been showcased in a dedicated solo special, L'Hora de l'Oye Sherman, staged at Barcelona's El Molino as part of the Hilària Club series. She won the 2017 VOC award for best web series.
