About Pamela Palenciano

No solo duelen los golpes, the piece Pamela Palenciano is known for, did not start life as a monologue. It began as a photographic exhibition of what she had felt and lived through, then became a prevention workshop built around those images. During the years she spent in El Salvador she discovered theatre and reshaped the project into an hour-long monologue for secondary schools as well as the general public.

On stage she works through the myth of romantic love, jealousy, control and possession, and psychological, sexual and physical violence, then on to recovery and other ways of relating, with humour and irony carrying the audience along. She has performed it in several Latin American countries and in hundreds of theatres and schools in Spanish cities.

She had earlier studied audiovisual communication at the University of Málaga. In 2017 she published the book Si es amor, no duele, and in the same year the city council of Getafe awarded her its Premio 8 de Marzo and Ticketea audiences gave her the Premio Godoff. The Ministry of Equality recognised her work in 2020.
