About Patricia Galván

Patricia Galván (born in Jerez de la Frontera, 1987) is a Spanish actress and comedian, and an activist for Spanish LGBT rights. She was born in Jerez into a Mormon family of the Iglesia de Jesucristo de los santos de los últimos días, with her father being a bishop of the church, a fact that conditioned her whole life although she considers herself "a spiritual person but not a believer in any religion". She was raised in Jerez and part of her life took place at the Base Naval Americana de Rota, where her mother had a sewing shop.

In her beginnings in Madrid she tried to do Standup Comedy but was not allowed on stage for being a woman; years later she explained how it took her many years to get back on a stage to do monologues after such a frustrating and traumatic experience. She is one of the most successful Spanish comedians nationally and internationally and the first Spanish female comedian to have performed in the United States. In the 2024 season she premiered her show Hardcore on Madrid's Gran Vía, and in the 2024-2025 season she settled with her show at the Teatro Fígaro. At 19 she began working with the companies Tántrico Teatro and Scena Difusio. She later directed, adapted and translated the musical Hairspray in 2011, while working as a teacher at the Escuela de teatro musical de María Beltrán. In 2012 she took part in the play La venganza de Don Mendo, by Pedro Muñoz Seca, directed by Manuel Gallardo, and was director, playwright and actress of the company Besos desde el sótano between 2006 and 2011.

In 2018 she took part in the program Got Talent España on Telecinco, where her reaction to a comment by juror Risto Mejide went viral. In 2020 the first film in which she has a supporting role, Mi gran despedida, directed by Antonio Hens and Antonio Álamo, premiered at the Festival de cine de Málaga that same year; that year she also performed for the Ministerio de Igualdad of the Spanish government at the Día internacional de la Mujer event on March 8. In 2022 the documentary Sexilio by director Eduardo Casanova, in which she took part, was screened. She declares herself bisexual, with Roma and Jewish ancestry, themes she uses in her monologues to address racism and homophobia. In 2022 she co-presented the Premios internacionales a la visibilidad lésbica in Tenerife; in 2023 the Spanish government and the ministerio de igualdad gave her the Reconocimiento Arcoíris for her fight against racism and homophobia through humor; and in 2024 she received a nomination for the Jameson award for best comedic content creator on social media alongside Galder Varas and Juan Dávila.
