About Adam Conover
Adam Conover (born 1982 or 1983) is an American actor, writer, comedian and television host. He created and hosted the half-hour truTV show Adam Ruins Everything, based on the CollegeHumor series of the same name, which aims to reveal untold truths and dispel common misconceptions. He was born in Smithtown, New York, and grew up in nearby Wading River on the North Shore of Long Island, the son of marine biologist David O. Conover and botanist Margaret Conover. After graduating from Shoreham-Wading River High School in 2000, he earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Bard College in 2004, where he was an active member of the sketch comedy group Olde English.
In 2012, Conover began working as a sketch comedy writer and performer for CollegeHumor, where he created the web series that became Adam Ruins Everything on truTV; the first episode premiered on September 29, 2015. He has voiced several characters in the Netflix animated series BoJack Horseman, voiced a character on Tuca & Bertie in 2019, and created the Earwolf podcast Factually! Since 2020 he has hosted an American adaptation of the family game show The Crystal Maze for Nickelodeon, and in 2022 his limited series The G Word with Adam Conover debuted on Netflix.
Conover serves on the board of the Writers Guild of America West and sat on the 2023 WGA contract negotiating committee, whose failure to reach an agreement with the AMPTP on May 1, 2023 triggered a strike. He had a 15-year relationship with illustrator Lisa Hanawalt and quit drinking in early 2018. As a Housing First activist, he performed stand-up to fundraise for Nithya Raman's successful 2020 Los Angeles City Council campaign.
