About Ben Bailey
Ben Bailey (born Benjamin Ray Bailey, 30 October 1970) is an American comedian best known as the host of the game show Cash Cab. He also does stand-up comedy, and as an actor has appeared in some films and television shows. He has received multiple Daytime Emmy nominations, including three wins for Outstanding Game Show Host as the host of Cash Cab. Born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and raised in Chatham Borough, New Jersey, he was a county champion swimmer and diver in his youth and graduated in 1988 from Chatham Borough High School, later attending Old Dominion University before moving to Los Angeles in 1993.
According to Bailey, he was telling stories with some comedians after hours at The Comedy Store, where he worked as a bartender and bouncer, when emcee Skip E. Lowe found his stories humorous and offered him an opportunity to perform stand-up. He soon returned to the East Coast, where he gained popularity at comedy clubs in New York City, and has since performed at major festivals such as Just For Laughs and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2006 he starred in his first special on Comedy Central, Comedy Central Presents Ben Bailey, and he later released Road Rage and Accidental Ornithology (2011) and Ben Bailey Live and Uncensored (2016).
Bailey was the host and producer of the American version of Cash Cab, a TV game show played in a taxicab that he drives around New York City, broadcast on the Discovery Channel and Bravo. He hosted the show for all of its 14 seasons, including its initial run from 2005 to 2012 and its return from 2017 to 2020, and he also hosted the spin-off Cash Cab After Dark. From 2011 to 2012 he hosted Who's Still Standing? on NBC, and he has appeared in shows including 30 Rock, Blue Bloods and Law and Order SVU. Bailey lives in Morristown, New Jersey, has two children, and is a licensed taxi driver in New York City.
