About Conan O'Brien
Conan Christopher O'Brien (born April 18, 1963), known as Conan O'Brien, is an American television host, comedian, writer, actor and podcaster. He is best known for having hosted late-night talk shows, beginning with Late Night with Conan O'Brien (1993-2009) and The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien (2009-2010) on NBC, and Conan (2010-2021) on the cable channel TBS. Before his hosting career, he was a writer for Saturday Night Live from 1988 to 1991 and the animated sitcom The Simpsons from 1991 to 1993.
Born in Brookline, Massachusetts, O'Brien was raised in an Irish Catholic family and served as president of The Harvard Lampoon while attending Harvard University, where he graduated magna cum laude with an AB degree in history and literature in 1985. He was selected by Lorne Michaels and NBC to take over David Letterman's position as host of Late Night in 1993, and hosted it for 16 years, earning a Primetime Emmy Award. In 2009 he moved to Los Angeles to host The Tonight Show for seven months until network politics prompted a host change in 2010.
He has hosted the podcast Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend since 2018, and starred in the 2024 travel show Conan O'Brien Must Go on HBO Max. He has hosted a number of awards shows, including the Emmy Awards in 2002 and 2006 and the Academy Awards in 2025. O'Brien was named one of Time's 100 Most Influential People in 2010, was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 2025, and is the 2025 recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
