Flame Monroe

Flame Monroe is an American stand-up comedian, actress, and podcast host born on July 14, 1979, in Chicago, Illinois. A transgender woman who grew up on the South Side of Chicago, Monroe began performing as a female impersonator in Chicago clubs and spent over two decades honing her craft before breaking through to national audiences. She is known for comedy that is grounded in storytelling, parenting, social issues, and personal identity - and consistently describes herself as a comedian first, who also happens to be transgender.

Monroe spent years building a following on the touring club circuit in Chicago and Los Angeles, developing material rooted in her experiences as a single parent to three children, her identity, and observations about American life and politics. Her national breakthrough came in 2019 when Tiffany Haddish personally selected her for Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready (Netflix, August 2019), a six-comedian stand-up showcase. Monroe's episode received strong audience response and earned the series an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Director for a Variety Series. She has performed at Netflix Is a Joke Fest and continues to tour nationally. She hosts the Laugh and Learn podcast as part of The Black Effect Podcast Network. Monroe has spoken openly in press - in publications including Nylon and Out.com - about her views on comedy, identity, and her belief that humor can address difficult subjects with honesty.

Flame Monroe actively tours comedy clubs across the United States. Her Netflix appearance in Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready (2019) is available on Netflix. She posts updates on Instagram (@monroe.flame).
