About Gary Owen
Gary Owen, born Gary Stephen Owens on July 26, 1974, in Cincinnati, Ohio, is an American stand-up comedian and actor. He adopted the stage name Gary Owen, dropping the "s" from his surname, to avoid confusion with television announcer Gary Owens. He began performing stand-up in 1995 while serving in the U.S. Navy in San Diego, California, and was later named "Funniest Serviceman in America."
His national breakthrough came in 1997 when he appeared on Black Entertainment Television's stand-up showcase Comic View. Owen went on to build a large following through club tours and appearances such as Shaquille O'Neal's All-Star Comedy Jam, and took featured film roles in Daddy Day Care, Little Man and College. In 2016 he starred in his own BET series, The Gary Owen Show. In 2024 he released the stand-up special Broken Family, addressing his divorce, dating and family life.
