About Kathleen Madigan
Kathleen Madigan (born 30 September 1965) is an American stand-up comedian and TV personality. In addition to her stand-up performances, she is a regular guest on a variety of U.S. television programs. She was born in Florissant, Missouri, one of seven children in an Irish Catholic family; her parents, Jack and Vicki Madigan, were a lawyer and a nurse respectively. She graduated from McCluer North High School in 1983 and earned a B.A. in journalism from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1988.
Madigan first took a job in print journalism while performing stand-up during open mic nights at St. Louis area comedy clubs. She credits her father, Jack, with encouraging her to try a comedy career, and cites Ron White, Richard Jeni and Lewis Black among her early influences. Among the TV shows and specials she has appeared on are Last Comic Standing, her own HBO Half-Hour Comedy Special, and a Comedy Central Presents special. She is a veteran of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and Late Show with David Letterman.
Madigan has twice participated in USO shows in support of American troops, touring both Iraq and Afghanistan. She sometimes writes material for other comedians, including for Garry Shandling when he hosted the Emmy Awards telecast in 2004 and 2005. In 2016, she appeared on Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. In August 2020, she launched her comedy podcast, Madigan's Pubcast. In 1996, she won Funniest Female Stand-Up Comic at the American Comedy Awards. Her specials include Kathleen Madigan: Bothering Jesus on Netflix, Hunting Bigfoot (2023), and The Family Thread (2025), both on Amazon Prime Video.
