About Liza Treyger
Liza Treyger (born 1987) is a Ukrainian-born comedian, actress, and podcast host. Born in the port city of Odessa, then part of the Ukrainian SSR, she emigrated with her family as Soviet Jews, settling in 1990 in the northern Chicago suburb of Skokie. She got her start in the Chicago comedy scene around 2009, and in her senior year of college co-founded Riot Comedy, a women-run weekly comedy showcase. In 2014 she made her television debut on NBC's Last Comic Standing and performed at the inaugural Comedy Exposition stand-up festival in Chicago.
After moving to New York City, Treyger performed on platforms including Late Night with Seth Meyers, Chelsea Lately, and The Stand-Up Show with Katherine Ryan, and landed a recurring role on the Louis C.K. web series Horace and Pete. She recorded a half-hour Comedy Central special in 2015, and in 2018 released a half-hour special as part of the Netflix series The Degenerates. In 2019 she brought her solo show In the Weeds to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Since November 2020 she has co-hosted the podcast That's Messed Up: An SVU Podcast with comedian Kara Klenk, breaking down episodes of Law and Order: SVU, and in 2022 the pair took the podcast on a twenty-five-city tour.
As an actress, Treyger appeared in The King of Staten Island (2020) and Nope (2022) before co-starring in Michelle Buteau's Survival of the Thickest (2023) on Netflix. In January 2025 she released her first full-hour stand-up special, Night Owl, on Netflix to critical acclaim. The New York Times included it in their feature "5 Smart and Silly Specials to Entertain You," writing that "there's an excitement, a danger even, to her onstage persona," and Vulture noted "a thrilling tension underneath all of Liza Treyger's stand-up."
