About Matteo Lane

Matteo Lane (born Matthew Lane, June 28, 1986) is an American comedian, actor, singer, and illustrator. He has made appearances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and HBO's Crashing. Lane was recognized by The Advocate as one of the "LGBT Icons, Innovators, and Disruptors" for his stand-up comedy. Born in 1986 in Des Plaines, Illinois, and raised in Arlington Heights, he is of Mexican and Italian descent through his mother and Irish descent through his father, and was nicknamed Matteo, the Italian equivalent of Matthew, by his Italian family. He speaks English, Italian, Spanish, and French.

Lane started singing opera at the age of 15 and studied oil painting and drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2009. After performing in bars in Boystown, he began his comedy career in 2011 at open mics in Chicago, then moved to New York in 2012 to work as a storyboard artist before quitting to pursue comedy. Featured in "New Faces" at the 2014 Just for Laughs festival, he went on to appear on MTV's Guy Code, Girl Code, and Ladylike, and represented Italy at "The Ethnic Show" at Just for Laughs in 2018.

In 2025, Lane released a cookbook titled Your Pasta Sucks: A "Cookbook" and an hour-long special titled The Al Dente Special on Hulu, his first special for a major service. In 2026, it was announced he would make his Broadway debut as Billy Flynn in Chicago. Lane has said his biggest influence in comedy is Joan Rivers, and on August 19, 2023, he announced that he and partner Rodrigo Aburto were married.
