Shane Mauss
About Shane Mauss
Shane Mauss (born May 25, 1980) is an American comedian from Onalaska, Wisconsin. He is of German and Irish descent and has said that he wanted to be a stand-up comedian since he was ten years old. He started writing jokes at age 15 but, due to anxiety, did not pursue a career until the age of 23, when he moved to Boston with a friend. After performing at open mic nights and overcoming his anxiety, he began performing in comedy clubs about six months after starting, and entered the Greater Boston Alternative Comedy Festival, reaching the final round of elimination.
In 2007, shortly after his first performance at the Greater Boston Alternative Comedy Festival, Mauss won the Best Standup Comic Award at HBO's Comedy Arts Festival. This led to him being invited to perform on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and he has since performed on Conan O'Brien's various late-night talk shows a total of five times. Between 2010 and 2015, he released three comedy albums: Jokes To Make My Parents Proud (2010), which Punchline Magazine named one of the top ten albums of 2010, Mating Season (2014), and My Big Break (2015), the last inspired by breaking both of his feet while hiking in 2014.
Mauss also stars in the documentary film Psychonautics: A Comic's Exploration Of Psychedelics (2018). He hosts the Here We Are podcast (2014-present), in which he interviews scientists and academics, focusing on subjects such as science, psychedelics, and the trait of "openness," and has toured a show called "Stand Up Science." He additionally co-hosts a comedy/science podcast called Mind Under Matter (2021-present) with artist Ramin Nazer, and has appeared on podcasts including WTF with Marc Maron and The Joe Rogan Experience.
