About Theo Von
Theo Von (born Theodor Capitani von Kurnatowski III, 19 March 1980) is an American comedian and former reality television personality. He hosts the This Past Weekend podcast and has appeared on MTV and Comedy Central shows. He was born in Covington, Louisiana, to Gina Capitani and Roland Theodor Achilles von Kurnatowski. His father was a native of Bluefields, Nicaragua, and his grandfather was a Polish missionary; Von describes himself as Polish-Nicaraguan.
Von's father was 67 when Von was born, and died of cancer in 1996 when Von was 16. He grew up in Covington with his older brother and two younger sisters and was legally emancipated at 14. He later moved to Mandeville, Louisiana, and graduated from Mandeville High School. He attended Louisiana State University, where he wrote for The Reveille, and received his undergraduate degree in Urban Planning in 2011 from the University of New Orleans. He first appeared on MTV's Road Rules: Maximum Velocity Tour in 2000 at age nineteen, and was on four seasons of MTV's reality game show The Challenge, winning two of them.
In 2006, Von competed on season 4 of Last Comic Standing, winning the companion online competition Last Comic Downloaded. In mid-2008, he was a member of the Comedy Central sketch/competition show Reality Bites Back, which he won, beating fellow comedians including Amy Schumer, Bert Kreischer and Tiffany Haddish. He hosted the TBS hidden camera show Deal With It (2013-2014) and the Comedy Central scripted show Man Up in 2018. Von began performing stand-up comedy in Louisiana, and at age 23 moved to Los Angeles to professionally pursue a career in comedy. He also took part in five international tours for the USO, including performing at Guantanamo Bay.
