Brăila is a port city on the Danube in eastern Romania that grew as a grain-trading hub, its fan-shaped street plan radiating out from the riverfront. Once a cosmopolitan harbour, it retains grand nineteenth-century architecture from its commercial heyday and, paired with neighbouring Galați, anchors the lower Danube.
Brăila is the birthplace of comedian Alexandru Dobrotă.
