About Anthony Francis Martin
Tony Martin (born 10 June 1964), born Anthony Francis Martin, is a New Zealand comedian, writer and actor who has had a successful TV, radio, stand-up and film career in Australia. A former stand-up comedian and commercial voice-over artist, he moved to Brisbane from New Zealand when he was 21 to work as a radio copywriter. He approached the ABC TV's The D-Generation in 1986 only to learn the first series had wrapped, then worked as a researcher on The Gillies Republic and made his Australian TV debut as 'Man in Bad Suit'. He became a writer for the second series of The D-Generation in 1987.
Martin became a bona fide D-Generation member writing and performing on the troupe's Breakfast Show on Triple M Melbourne radio (1987-1992), where he was nicknamed "The Fat Man". Recognisable as the "tall skinny guy with glasses", he was one of the most valuable members of the group as a writer and performer on The Late Show (1992-1993), forming an effective comedic partnership with Mick Molloy and providing voices for serials such as Bargearse and The Olden Days. After The Late Show, Martin and Molloy developed the top-rating national radio program Martin/Molloy, which produced three ARIA award-winning compilation albums: The Brown Album (1995), Poop Chute (1996) and Eat Your Peas (1998).
In 2000, Martin was nominated for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Award for his show A Quiet Word with Tony Martin, and made guest appearances on programs including Thank God You're Here and Kath & Kim. In 2004 he and Shaun Micallef began a sketch series with the working title Mouse-Patrol, which was cancelled by management. On 3 April 2006 he returned to the Austereo network to produce the nationally syndicated show Get This on Triple M with Ed Kavalee and Richard Marsland.
