About Hella von Sinnen

Hella von Sinnen (born 2 February 1959), born Hella Kemper, is a German entertainer and television presenter. Her stage name literally means "Hella out of her mind", making a pun of the aristocratic "von". She has been a regular on several TV shows on German private channels, mainly RTL, and has been socially committed to people with HIV for many years.

Born in Gummersbach, von Sinnen played the nurse Rita in Rosa von Praunheim's 1986 film A Virus Knows No Morals, one of the first feature films about AIDS. Since the show's first air date on 11 January 2003, she has served as one of two permanent panel members of the weekly Sat.1 improvisational comedy show Genial daneben, in which she and the other panellists try to answer strange questions sent in by the audience. Since 2018 she has been a panel member of the spin-off Genial daneben - Das Quiz, and since April 2017 she has hosted the ComicTalk on the German online portal Massengeschmack-TV.

Von Sinnen supports same-sex marriage in Germany and was in a long-time relationship with Cornelia Scheel, the adopted daughter of former German President Walter Scheel. Her filmography includes voice work as Shenzi in the 1994 German dub of The Lion King and Detective Sally in Killer Condom (1996). Among her awards, she won a Bambi in 1990, the German Comedy Award for Best Comedian in 2006, and was named Spectacle Wearer of the Year in 2007.
