About Hans-Jürgen Hubert Dohrenkamp

Juergen Von Der Lippe (born Hans-Jurgen Hubert Dohrenkamp; 8 June 1948) is a German television presenter, entertainer, actor, musician, and comedian. His stage name comes from the fact that he was born near the source of the river Lippe. He was born in Bad Salzuflen and grew up in Aachen, where he attended the Kaiser-Karls-Gymnasium. From 1967 to 1970 he trained as a signaller in the Bundeswehr. Before his career in show business, he studied German language and literature, philosophy, and linguistics in Aachen and Berlin, without graduating.

His first major television success was Donnerlippchen on WDR, and he went on to present the long-running dating show Geld oder Liebe on ARD, which finished in 2001 after twelve years on air. His many programmes have included WWF Club (1980-1990), Hast Du Worte, and Lippes Lachmix. He also pursued a music career: in 1976 he co-founded the group Gebruder Blattschuss, and his greatest musical success, "Guten Morgen, liebe Sorgen," reached first place in the ZDF hit parade in 1987.

On stage, von der Lippe typically dissects odd quirks and everyday events, poking gentle fun with plenty of self-irony, focusing on themes of marriage and relationships between men and women. He has created many recurring characters, including a naive Catholic priest, a postal worker from the Sauerland, and "Kalle," a Berlin heavy metal fan, and is also known for his parodies of German stars such as Udo Lindenberg and Helge Schneider. He has received the Romy award.
