About Marc-Uwe Kling

Marc-Uwe Kling (born 1982 in Stuttgart) is a German songwriter, author and Kabarett (political stand-up comedy) artist. He studied philosophy and drama at the Freie Universitat Berlin, and since 2003 he has regularly performed on various stages in Berlin, frequently appearing at literary and Kabarett events as well as poetry slams. In 2004 he founded a serial public literary event called Lesedune, a pun on the German words Lesebuhne (lecture stage) and Dune (dune), and since 2005 he has toured with his program Wenn alle Stricke reissen, kann man sich nicht mal mehr aufhangen, which is also the title of his first album.

Kling hosts the weekly podcast Neues vom Kanguru (News from the Kangaroo) for the Potsdam-based radio station Fritz, which deals with the same theme as his book Die Kanguru-Chroniken (The Kangaroo Chronicles): a "phlegmatic anarchist" who lives with a talking, "pragmatically communist" kangaroo as his roommate. He also organises and hosts the Kreuzberg Slam in Berlin and a poetry slam in Potsdam. His notable works include the Kangaroo Chronicles series and the QualityLand novels.

In 2017 Kling published a comedic dystopian novel titled QualityLand, and in March 2019 HBO announced that they would create a series based on the book, directed by Mike Judge. His Kangaroo books have been published in volumes including Die Kanguru-Offenbarung (2014) and Die Kanguru-Apokryphen (2018), and he has also written children's books such as Das NEINhorn (2019). According to Wikidata, he has received the Bavarian Stand-up Comedian Award, the Jonathan Swift Award and the Rostocker Koggenzieher.
