Tom Yaar

Tom Yaar (born 21 July 1987) is an Israeli comedienne, stand-up comedian, actress, presenter and online creator. Yaar was born in Ramat HaSharon and studied at the Hakfar Hayarok boarding school. She did not enlist in the army but completed full national service. In 2011 she founded and ran an independent stand-up group called "The Stand-up Evening of Tom Yaar". The group included a lineup of young comedians who had not been known until then on the stand-up stage, among them Niv Majar, Galit Hugi, Yermi Shik Bloom, Asaf Kaplansky and Lior Amsterdamski, and it gained great popularity among young people in Tel Aviv. The group's success opened a new wave of young stand-up comedians.

In 2013 the original group disbanded, and Yaar went on to her own solo career. That same year she staged her first solo stand-up show called "Jora shel Mal'ach", with which she performed for about a year, mainly in the Tel Aviv area. In 2015 Yaar came out with a new comedy show called "Lo Temima Bat Shesh", based on her life experiences and dealing with subjects such as body image and sexual relations. In 2016 Yaar was chosen to be the presenter in the advertising campaign of the company Bezeq, and in 2017 she was selected by the magazine "Forbes Israel" as one of the fifty most influential women in Israel.

In 2016 she began appearing on the late-night programme "Ha-Yom ba-Layla im Guri Alfi". That same year she took part in several sketches of the popular satire programme "Eretz Nehederet", and about a year later joined the programme as a regular cast member, where she created the character of the girl-singer "Agas Kimmel". In 2017 a mockumentary comedy series starring Yaar, "Tom Yaar Oseh et Shvil Yisrael", aired on yes; it received mostly positive reviews and won the prize for best documentary-reality programme at the 2017 Television Academy Awards. In 2024 she began appearing in the stand-up and sketch programme "Mo'adon ha-Stand-up" broadcast on Kan 11, and that same year the comedy series "Ha-Me'abetachat" aired, in which she plays the lead character Tamar "Gozal" Tzafani.
