Yoel Ripel

Yoel Ripel came to comedy through writing rather than through a club stage. While studying law at Tel Aviv University he published satire in the student paper Yatush and wrote for a student humour troupe, and the law degree turned into a practice of his own, which he kept running alongside the entertainment work.

As a lyricist and sketch writer he supplied material to a long list of Israeli performers. His best-known song is Laila Bli Kochav, set to music by Uzi Hitman and sung by Shimi Tavori. Television put him on screen in entertainment formats such as Tesha BeRibua and used him off screen as a scriptwriter for Zehu Zeh! and Motzash. On radio he took part in Letzon Nofel Al Letzon, work that earned him a prize from the Broadcasting Authority. The humour also went into print, in the books Anachnu HaRomanim and Anachnu HaYisraelim, published in 2014 and 2015.
