About Chiel de Boer

Chiel de Boer was a Dutch performer from the Netherlands who worked as a dentist but whose great passion was cabaret. Alongside his dental practice he hosted cabaret evenings, performing French chansons together with self-written songs and spoken routines, with Jean-Louis Pisuisse as his greatest example. He was known for refined wordplay and material that could be risque but was never crude. Before the Second World War he appeared with friends from his student years, including lawyer Ernst August Moes and coffee broker Tony Straub, in varied evenings featuring songs, magic acts and monologues. After the war he worked as a professional cabaret artist for twelve years, leading his own cabaret group and a radio programme.
