Harrie Jekkers

Harrie Jekkers first became known as the singer and songwriter of Klein Orkest, the group he started with Koos Meinderts in 1978. The album Het leed versierd gave them Oh, Oh, Den Haag, a nod to his home city, and Over de muur was a protest song; with Roltrap naar de maan the band won an Edison.

After the group stopped in 1985 he went solo in cabaret. Het gelijk van de koffietent, Met een goudvis naar zee and Het geheim van de Lachende Piccolo are among his theatre shows. His song Terug bij af brought him the Annie M.G. Schmidt Prize, and he also received the Nationale Scheveningen Cabaretprijs.

Children are a second audience for him. His stage work includes the children's musicals Piggelmee and De club van lelijke kinderen, and with Meinderts he has written a string of books, one of which, Ballade van de dood, earned a Zilveren Griffel. Later he revived Klein Orkest for a reunion tour, shared the show Als we zo vrij mogen zijn with Jeroen van Merwijk and went out on his final tour, In mijn liedjes kan ik wonen, in 2024.
