About Jeffrey Spalburg
Jeffrey Spalburg reached cabaret by way of hip-hop. As a rapper he belonged to the band Hipbone Connection, and after meeting Najib Amhali at theatre school the two performed as the duo Brothers Of Showbizz. Writing for others followed: he became the regular writer behind the theatre and television shows of Jörgen Raymann, among them The Comedy Factory and Raymann is Laat.
His own solo career on stage opened with Brommers Kiek'n, which premiered in 2008, and continued with Spiekerboks, Thuus and BAAS. He made Prinsjesdag together with Rayen Panday. In the Keti Koti Conference he combines comedy sketches with stories and music to take on the history of slavery, and Jazz & Jokes puts him on stage with Michael Varekamp. Music never left his act: his reggae number Hengelo-o-o became a hit and brought him De Nijverbij, a distinction from his birthplace Hengelo.
Film parts include Gangsterboys and Messi. Away from the stage he has written guest columns for de Volkskrant and the autobiographical novel Ik ben jullie meester, published by Das Mag, in which he tells the story of his father's life.
