Merijn Scholten
Stand-up comedian from Netherlands 🇳🇱
About Merijn Scholten
Merijn Scholten's breakthrough year on the Dutch comedy circuit was 2007, when he won both the Amsterdams Studenten Cabaret Festival and the Knock Out Comedy championship. Early in 2008 he became a member of the comedy company Comedytrain, and between 2012 and 2019 he also performed with Thomas Gast as the cabaret duo De Partizanen.
Writing for others has taken up a large share of his time. He supplied material to the satirical television show Dit was het nieuws from 2009 to 2019, worked on the cabaret part of the VARA radio programme Spijkers met koppen from 2015 to 2020, and in 2021 started writing for Het Klokhuis. Meanwhile a new audience found him through the minute-long sketches he began posting on Instagram in 2020.
Team Solo, his first solo show, opened at the end of 2022 and brought him to the Koninklijk Theater Carré in Amsterdam for the first time in 2024; NPO 3 later broadcast it through VPRO. The same channel carried Week van Merijn, a weekly run of sketches built on the news of the week.
