About Patrick Laureij
Patrick Laureij (born 1982 in Rotterdam, Netherlands) is a Dutch stand-up comedian who grew up in the working-class neighbourhood of IJsselmonde in Rotterdam-Zuid. He first stepped on stage in 2006 at Rotterdam Talent Night with four minutes of material and improvised jokes, and went on to become one of the permanent members of the Comedytrain collective in Amsterdam. He is best known as the winner of the 2013 Cameretten Festival.
Laureij learned his craft through the Open Stage at Comedyclub Toomler in Amsterdam, where he developed his act through countless short sets. His hard work paid off in 2009 with a successful Comedytrain audition; since 2010 he has been one of the permanent members of the collective and performs weekly at the Toomler venue. He has appeared multiple times at the Lowlands festival and in the opening programme for Theo Maassen. His major breakthrough came at the 48th Cameretten Festival in 2013, where he won both the jury and audience prizes with his programme Dekking Hoog at a sold-out Nieuwe Luxor Theater in Rotterdam, beating finalists Rundfunk and Fuad Hassen. The jury praised him as both a tough street kid and a vulnerable comedian on stage. In 2015 he was cast in one of the larger recurring roles as Dennis in the 10-episode police series Noord/Zuid on NPO 1. He tours his own theater programmes including LIVE and Nederlands Hoop. His style combines authentic Rotterdam-Zuid speech with confessional storytelling and observational stand-up.
Patrick Laureij tours Dutch theaters with his solo programmes and performs weekly at Comedytrain shows at Comedyclub Toomler in Amsterdam. Major venues for his solo tour include the Kleine Komedie in Amsterdam and the Leidse Schouwburg.
