About Peer Engels

Peer Engels (born in Panningen on 10 April 1957) is a Dutch writer of short stories, cabaret material and novels, who also works as a columnist, translator and cabaret performer. Alongside the writing he paints and builds stage sets.

Between 1987 and 1994 he wrote or co-wrote most of the non-musical material for the cabaret group Herenakkoord. He stayed close to television and video work afterwards with Aart & Ton and Karel Glastra van Loon, and in the early 1990s the two of them took turns on a column called Glas & Engels in Paul Haenen's Mens + Gevoelens. For several years he also translated The Simpsons for Dutch dubbing.

From 1989 until the fire that destroyed Club RoXY in 1999 he worked there as a painter and set designer. His first novel, Tinnen schreeuw, was published in 2007 by Uitgeverij TIC, and a collection of the Glas & Engels columns followed in 2010.
