Remco Veldhuis
About Remco Veldhuis
Remco Veldhuis (born March 28, 1973, in Haarlem) is a Dutch cabaret performer and singer, best known as one half of the iconic musical cabaret duo Veldhuis & Kemper with Richard Kemper. Active in cabaret since 1999, he has become a household name in the Netherlands thanks to the duo's hit song 'Ik wou dat ik jou was' and a body of theater work spanning more than two decades.
Veldhuis came from the television and advertising world before meeting Richard Kemper in 1997 through a mutual friend. In 1999 the duo booked the small hall of the Concertgebouw in Haarlem for their first show 'Los Zand' and the same year finished second at the Cameretten festival, behind Marc-Marie Huijbregts. Their first full-length cabaret program 'Half zo Echt' (2002) featured the finale song 'Ik wou dat ik jou was', which reached number 2 in the Dutch Top 40, became the most-played Dutch-language song of 2003 and was later voted the third-best Dutch-language song of all time. The accompanying album went gold and won an Edison Music Award for Best Cabaret/Listening Song. Veldhuis & Kemper have since created more than ten theater programs, with their twelfth show 'Kunnen het niet laten' touring in the 2024/2025 season. In 2016 Veldhuis released a solo program 'Lang Verhaal Kort', a comic summary of the Bible, and in 2017 he served as narrator in The Passion. His style mixes catchy songcraft with sharp observational humor about relationships, family and Dutch society.
Remco Veldhuis tours the Netherlands and Belgium with Richard Kemper as Veldhuis & Kemper, performing in major theaters and music venues. Their current show 'Kunnen het niet laten' runs through the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 seasons. The duo's official website veldhuisenkemper.nl lists all tour dates and ticket information.
