Tineke Schouten

Tineke Schouten (born June 12, 1954, in Utrecht) is one of the longest-serving and most beloved cabaret performers in the Netherlands. Widely known as the queen of character comedy, she has spent more than 50 years entertaining Dutch audiences with an extraordinary range of vivid, sharply observed characters - from working-class neighborhood figures to eccentric grandmothers - brought to life through comedy, song, and theatrical flair. In 2005, in recognition of her contribution to Dutch culture, she was decorated as Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau by the mayor of De Bilt.

Schouten grew up in Utrecht as the daughter of a supermarket owner and showed performance talent from childhood: at 14 she won her first talent competition, and at 18 she was accepted into Muzeval Cabaret in Utrecht. She worked closely with Utrechtse cabaret performer Herman Berkien from 1974 to 1979, building the stagecraft that would define her solo career. Her national breakthrough came with the hit single 'Lenie uit de Takkestraat,' and her theater show 'Op en Top Tien' (1982) established her as a star. Over more than four decades she has created more than 27 solo theater programs, each populated by a fresh cast of meticulously constructed character types. Her gallery of recurring figures - including Lenie uit de Takkestraat, Bep Lachebek, Oma Oortjes, and Meneer Eddy - have become part of Dutch popular culture. She received the Dutch Cabaret Oeuvre Prize on January 21, 2014, recognizing her lifetime contribution to the art form. Now in her 28th program, 'Femme Vitaal' (2025-2026), she continues to perform to sold-out theaters across the Netherlands well past traditional retirement age.

Tineke Schouten is currently touring the Netherlands with her 28th program, 'Femme Vitaal,' playing major theaters in cities including Alkmaar, Amstelveen, Dordrecht, Veenendaal, and many more throughout the 2025-2026 season. Despite a career spanning more than five decades, she continues to perform to packed houses and loyal fans across the country. Tickets for her shows are available through Dutch theater booking platforms and her official website.
