About Helen Paul
Helen Paul (born 1 May 1983) is a Nigerian comedian, singer, and actress. As a stand-up comedian she is known as "Tatafo", a character marked by a voice range that makes her sound like a child. She broke out as a naughty comic character on the radio programme Wetin Dey on Radio Continental 102.3FM in Lagos, where she was known as Tatafo, a witty kid who lampoons societal issues in a satirical manner.
Born in Lagos, Paul has worked as a freelance and full-time presenter at several Nigerian media houses, including Lagos Television (LTV 8), Continental Broadcasting Service (CBS), and M-Net, where she co-presents JARA on Africa Magic. In July 2012 she released her debut album Welcome Party, which contains Afro-Pop songs such as "Boju Boju", "Vernacular" and "Gbedu". She subsequently released singles including "Take It Back" and, in 2018, "Never Knew". She also opened a bridal and fabric boutique in Lagos in 2012 called Massive Fabrics and Bridals, and in 2014 founded the Helen Paul Theater and Film Academy.
Paul is married to Femi Bamisile and has two sons. In 2019 she obtained her doctorate in Theater Arts from the University of Lagos, which she dedicated to her mother, and in 2021 she relocated with her family to the United States. Her film credits include The Return of Jenifa (2011), A Wish (2012), and Your Excellency (2019). Among her honours, she was named Comedienne of the Year at the 2012 African Film Awards (Afro-Hollywood, UK) and Female Comedian of the Year at the 2011 City People Entertainment Magazine Award.
