Darío Mares

Darío Mares is a Spanish stand-up comedian born in Cuenca in 1982 who worked as a physical education teacher at a Madrid school before turning to comedy. In 2014, before performing professionally, he began posting absurd, deliberately misremembered plot summaries of films on the Twitter account ResumePelis, limited to the platform's then 140 character format, which drew a following that included established comedians and presenters such as Eva Hache. He built on that online profile to move into live stand-up, developing a style based on absurd, high energy, heavily gestural delivery, and became a regular performer at El Club de la Comedia. His solo shows include Atroz, performed at El Golfo Comedy Club and centred on the misadventures of fatherhood, and Lo de las Pelis at Sala Beer Station, alongside earlier material such as Qué Asco Todo! and Un Show FETÉN. He has repeatedly performed as part of the Phi Beta Lambda comedy showcase circuit and continues to release short monologue clips through his own YouTube channel while touring nationally.
