About Marc Maron
Marc David Maron (born September 27, 1963) is an American stand-up comedian, writer, actor, musician and former radio presenter and podcaster. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, he is the son of an orthopedic surgeon and grew up partly in Alaska and Albuquerque, New Mexico, graduating from Highland High School and from Boston University in 1986 with a B.A. in English literature. In the 1990s and 2000s he was a frequent guest on the Late Show with David Letterman and appeared more than forty times on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, more than any other stand-up comedian.
Maron first performed stand-up in 1987 at age 24, beginning his professional career at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles, where he became an associate of Sam Kinison, before moving to New York City and joining the alternative comedy scene. He hosted Comedy Central's Short Attention Span Theater from 1993 to 1994 and was a regular on the radio network Air America from 2004 to 2009. His first one-man show, Jerusalem Syndrome, had an extended off-Broadway run in 2000 and was released in book form in 2001.
In September 2009, Maron began hosting the podcast WTF with Marc Maron from his garage in Highland Park, Los Angeles, interviewing comedians, authors, musicians and celebrities. Highlights include a 2010 episode with Louis C.K. rated the No. 1 podcast episode of all time by Slate, and a 2015 interview with then-President Barack Obama; the podcast ended in 2025 with Obama returning as its final guest. Maron starred in the IFC series Maron (2013-2016), co-starred in the Netflix series GLOW (2017-2019), appeared in Joker (2019), and voiced Mr. Snake in The Bad Guys (2022) and its 2025 sequel.
